Wisdom Tooth Removal
Not every wisdom tooth needs removal. We advise removal when there is a problem: repeated gum infection around it, decay that can’t be fixed, damage to the neighbouring tooth, a cyst, or infection. A healthy, symptom-free wisdom tooth can often be left and monitored. This follows UK guidance from NICE.

Who it is for
People with pain, swelling of the gum behind the last tooth, difficulty opening the mouth, a bad taste, or food trapping behind the last molar.
What happens and how many visits
- Examination and X-ray to see the tooth’s position and how close it is to the nerve. A 3D scan (CBCT) may be advised.
- Removal under local anaesthesia, either simple or surgical. Complex impacted teeth are referred to, or removed together with, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
- A review visit, with stitch removal if needed, after about 5–7 days.
Aftercare
- Bite on gauze for the time advised, and don’t spit or rinse hard on the first day.
- Use cold packs for swelling, and eat soft, cool food.
- No smoking or tobacco.
- Take the medicines as advised.
- Call us if pain increases after day 3 or swelling spreads.
Fee
Simple extraction: ₹500. Surgical wisdom tooth removal: ₹3,500 to ₹5,500, depending on difficulty. Written estimate after the X-ray.
Frequently asked questions
Not routinely. Removal is advised when there is a problem or a clear risk, which we explain using your X-ray.
It is usually worst on days 2–3 and settles within about a week.
Medicines can calm a flare-up, but repeated episodes usually mean the tooth or gum flap needs treatment.
